1.6 billion people do not have access to electricity in their homes and 2.4 billion use traditional biomass for cooking. Most of these people pay too much money for dirty, dangerous and environmentally unsound fuels and technologies.
But cleaner and more affordable high-quality alternatives exist! The challenge is bringing these alternatives to the markets that need them.
And that's not all. Thousands of food & beverage and agro-processing industries produce large, polluting waste streams that could be used as a source of energy. Thousands of feasible small hydro sites have yet to be developed. Millions of people still use only electricity in the tropics to heat their water.
By knocking down the informational and financial barriers to business development, all of these challenges can be overcome in a market-oriented and sustainable way.
